Stop Absorbing Other People’s Negative Energy and Claiming it As Your Own

True health infuses positive energy in the mind, body and spirit; it is a main focus in my life.” – Maximillian Degenerez

Taking inventory of the people we allow in our personal space is so important. How are you protecting your energy when it comes to investing your time into others? Are you monitoring what you’re allowing into your personal space? Often, when we’re dealing with individuals who are full of negative energy we ignore it because in most cases it’s someone we love deeply. But does the love we have for others mean neglecting ourselves? Somewhere we were taught that protecting others while neglecting ourselves is love. I choose to disagree. I’ve been coaching myself to love people from a distance or cut them out completely if it means absorbing their pain and negative emotions while unintentionally taking them on as if they’re my own.

We do not have to wear the weight of the people we love on our spirit. We do not have to bear other people’s burdens to prove we love them. Those who live in misery/negativity have very parasitic like behaviors and personalities. They’ll use you to their advantage. Sucking everything they can from you for their own emotional benefit. It’s like choosing to constantly feed a stray animal while deep down inside you’re afraid of or know that one day it could harm you if you don’t give it what it wants constantly. Stop feeding what you know to be detrimental to your well-being.

I had a friend whose idea of life was hardship and struggle. They thrived in chaotic environments. Meanwhile, I’m like I’m healed from that way of living and thinking so it doesn’t serve me to live or even be near low vibrational entities of that magnitude. They believed in wallowing in their negativity and wanting those around them to live in the same space. Me being highly empathic I sensed the struggles my friend was experiencing and desperately wanted to be there and save them. I remember being in this person’s presence and instantly feeling drained and tired all the time. I could sleep for hours being around them. They were an energy leech. For a long time, I didn’t pick up on this because of my love for them over powered it what it truly meant to be in their presence. Overtime, I started to pick up on the fluctuations of my mood and energy in and out of their presence. This is when I knew change needed to occur within our friendship.

From this experience I learned two things, one being that unless people absolutely want to evolve out of their negative headspace you can’t force it. The second thing I learned is, when people are deeply rooted in misery you’ll end up drowning in it with them before you pull them out of it. Too often we take on the task of being the “savior” or “healer” for those we love and end up experiencing deep pain and suffering due to the absorption of their negativity. Feeling empathy or sympathy for others is one thing, but sacrificing ourselves in the process is another. Stop accepting people’s pain as your as your own because you love them. Stop assuming loyalty equates to harming yourself and sacrificing your personal energy for the sake of others. People will feed you what they feed themselves if you allow it. Whether what they’re feeding you is positive or negative, if you allow it to impact you it will have an effect on you. As long as you accept and commit to negative energy exchanges from others your life will become a product of negative energy. Most of us are addicted to people pleasing. Being there for others makes a lot of us feel validated. Let go of the need to constantly please other people, especially if their energy is harmful to your own.

I work with a lot of different people in my field of work. I tell everyone that I work with that I reserve the right to refuse to assist you in any way if I feel like your energy heavily weighs on me in a negative way. Reserve the right to tell people no and feel empowered by doing so. When we develop a level of confidence about ourselves, we don’t feel guilty about telling others “that’s going to be a no for me, dawg.” Lol I joke, but I am serious. Setting boundaries is a vital factor in protecting our personal space as well as protecting ourselves from absorbing other people’s energy. This world and the parasitic zombies will drain you dry if you allow it. I’ve been advising a lot of my clients or people close to me on how to cleanse their energy after making contact with negative people. Here are a few methods to get you started.

  • Sage and smudging your personal space and yourself after making contact with negative, energetic parasites.
  • Frequently take salt and or herb baths.
  • Always cleanse your personal space from top to bottom.
  • Burn white candles. White candles symbolize purity, clearing negativity and new beginnings. I light a white candle every day when I get home and I keep them burning when I have a guest in my space.
  • Rub yourself down with essential oils.
  • Purchase or make your own protection body mist.
  • Mediation.

Unsure or skeptical about doing your own energy healing? You can always see others help you clear any imbalances, misalignments or blockages you’ve encountered by absorbing energy that does not belong to you. Also, research and be very careful about who you seek energy healing services from. A lot of healers can be leeches too, energetically and financially.

If we are focused on our own elevation it is very common to descend to lower spaces mentally, emotionally and energetically. But those of us committed to vibrating higher always can easily recognize when we’re out of alignment and can instantly work to correct it. There are those who have a harder time understanding this and even acting on healing themselves. While it is normal for some to not know how to dig themselves out of a negative space, it isn’t normal to constantly subject ourselves to negative energy from others. It is okay to say no to others negative energy, no matter who they are. Guard you soul. Protect your vessel because from it all things flow. Value your energy and your spirit. You are your most prized possession.

Be Inspired. Be Encouraged. Be Blessed.
